Galveston photos
Texas, United States
The drive-to port for Houston and the western Caribbean.
Galveston is the homeport for travelers who would rather drive than fly. It sits on the island, and a large share of its passengers come from the Houston area. Our samples from this pier run to the western Caribbean and, on a shorter pattern, to Mexico’s Caribbean coast.
The island is part of the trip in a way a downtown Florida port is not. People often stay the night before because the causeway and weekend traffic are predictable problems. The ship is the reason to be here; the historic waterfront is a useful evening, not a full vacation.
- Drive marketUseful when Houston, Dallas, or Austin is home and a Florida flight is the expensive part.
- Western CaribbeanCozumel, Costa Maya, and Roatan are the calls that show up in the seven-night samples.
- Shorter Mexico coastA five-night sample touches Cozumel and Progreso without a full island week.

Questions about Galveston
Do I need to stay on the island the night before?
It is the recommendation we make when you are driving more than a couple of hours. A delay on the causeway does not hold the ship.
Is this a Mexican Riviera port?
No. Galveston faces the Gulf. Pacific Mexico leaves from Los Angeles in our samples.
Are the beaches the cruise?
The Galveston beach is a pleasant extra. The cruise ports of call are in Mexico and the western Caribbean.
